　　The IC697CPU771, manufactured by GE Automation & Controls, is a single-socket, scalable programmable logic controller CPU capable of controlling industrial machinery and processes in real time. To communicate with the I/O and Smart Options modules, a rack-mounted backplane is used.

　　The IC697CPU771 has a 12MHz 80C186 microprocessor capable of achieving 0.4 microseconds per Boolean function. The device supports any mixture of up to 8K analog I/O and 2K I/O. The device also supports a variety of intelligent option modules, including IC697 LAN interface modules, coprocessor modules, communication modules, IC660 and IC661 bus controller I/O modules, and discrete and analog IC697 I/O modules.

　　IC697CPU771 is configured by MS-DOS or a software program running from Windows 95 or Windows NT operating systems. Neither DIP switches nor jumpers are used for device programming.
